The Colgate Student Coalition (CSC) is a collective of over 130 Colgate University clubs, organizations, and sports teams that are committed to working towards social justice on campus and beyond. Though this statement is broad, it embodies the essence of our goals -- to effect change, however big or small, in any way we collectively choose to go.
The CSC originated with a 13-day fundraising challenge which started when three Colgate students were planning a fundraiser between Delta Delta Delta sorority and Black Student Union. Ultimately, these three students' ideas evolved into an effort that united students across many diverse Colgate University organizations. With the help of students across campus, the CSC raised $74,818 to donate to bail funds supporting Black Lives Matter protesters. Our work did not stop after the fundraiser -- the Colgate Student Coalition has been working on other integral initiatives in support of justice for Breonna Taylor, of protection for international students, and of the removal of Colgate students who have posted racist content on social media platforms.
We want those who supported the CSC's first initiative to know that social justice work is a journey that lasts a lifetime. CSC advocacy did not stop at the end of the fundraiser. The CSC is just getting started.
